NOURISH & COOL - FEMALE RESTORATIVE - INFLAMMATION

Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) moisturizes like a deep drenching rain - putting out inflammatory fire of the chest, gut, liver and lower body. Settling in the pelvis like a cool deep puddle and gathering energy around the female reproductive tissues, lingering long enough to restore the female energy.

Shatavari is the ultimate YIN tonic, highly revered in Ayurvedic Medicine. Used on conditions of dryness, heat and depletion. Part used is the sweet-potato like root and the taste is sweet, very moist and very mildly bitter.

Traditional uses:

  • Hormonal balance & fertility – Gently supports estrogenic tone, improves cervical mucus, and nourishes the reproductive organs. Used to enhance fertility and regulate cycles of the dry, inflamed pelvic tissues.

  • Menopause & Perimenopause – Relieves hot flushes, dryness, and irritability. Rebuilds depleted fluids and restores hormonal harmony through transition.

  • Postpartum – Traditionally used to strengthen the womb & enhance lactation.

  • Nervous system support – Calms stress, soothes anxious minds, and supports adrenal balance. Especially helpful for depleted, burnt-out constitutions.

  • Inflammation - soothes gastritis, reflux, ulceration, dry cough, arthritic inflammation, vaginal dryness, bladder inflammation.

As a tincture …
Take 30 - 60 ml per week or 4 - 8 ml daily in divided doses.

Most like:

  • Dong Quai – Although Dong Quai has a warming, blood moving and blood building effect, both are tonics to the female reproductive system. Shatavari is more cooling, nourishing and moisturizing to the tissues.

  • Licorice Both soothe the adrenals and moisten dryness. Licorice is more harmonizing for digestion, lungs and adrenals. Shatavari is more specific to female pelvic tissues and hormones.

  • Ashwagandha / Withania Energetically opposite, but often used together as a tonic to restore strength and calm the Female nerves and body. Shatavari is more cooling, and fluid-building; Ashwagandha is warming and strengthening.

  • Rehmannia Energetically both very cooling and moisturizing, but Rehmannia strengthens the blood more, where Shatavari restores moisture deeply.

Caution:

Avoid in estrogen-sensitive cancers.
Use with caution in very damp or cold conditions.
Not advised in Pregnancy.
